Electric Grape Sangria Fizz

Before you read anything else, click this. And then come back and read while it plays. . . .

Summer is here.

Time for barbecues and sunset ‘getties’ in the street. (If you’re over 30, I know you’re wondering:  getty = a get together).

Time for bean dips and icy drinks with beads of sweat dripping down their red, plastic Solo cup sides.

Yes. I think so.

Grapity-grape juice is a sorely under-used cocktail mixer in my opinion.

Why does this poor little juice of childhood bliss sit on the back burner for happy hour consideration?

I don’t know.

But we’re bringing it back – with gusto.

Summer time, summer time, sum-sum-summertime, here we come. . . .

Start with cut fruit – preferably grapes and cherries. Toss into an ice tray and pour your favorite white wine over the top. ( I used Sauvignon Blanc)

Freeze it.

Cubes of wine-marinated fruit emerge hours later, and bob up and down in your glass of cold, fizzy refreshment.

They’ll eventually settle to the bottom – and serve as a light bite while you’re waiting for the grill to heat.

For each drink:

  • 2 ounces good quality vodka
  • 2 ounces grape juice
  • Seltzer water
  • 2 fruit and wine ice cubes.

Combine vodka and grape juice in a glass. add ice cubes, top with desired amount of seltzer, and toast to the start of summer.

  1. Following your instructions and reading the post makes me feel like summer is here. Time to get this sangria deliciousness started!!! Thanks 😀

  2. Crazy yumminess. At some point this summer I hope to host an open house when we move to “introduce ourselves” to the neighbors. If I serve this, I’ll be the popular kid on the block, right?

  3. Yum…Yes, I’ll have one please! I can’t say I’d try some of your more interesting recipes :), but I’m all the way behind this one!!!!

    • Ha! I love it! At least “the more interesting” recipes make for some entertaining reading. . . . Thanks for sticking with me through the weird ones too! Enjoy your drink!

  4. Ooooo, I love the idea of making fruit and wine ice cubes.

And I must be old, because I definitely didn’t know what a getty is. It actually just made me think of Estelle Getty (that makes me even older, ha)!

    • I’m pretty disadvantaged when it comes to pop culture – I’m going to have to google Estelle Getty! I love the ice cubes too – they’re perfect for summer drinks!!

      • Oh Sara! You don’t know Estelle Getty!?! You must find you a channel or video streaming account with Golden Girls. Sophia rocks!!!

        • OK then, when you put it like that, yes, I DO know who she is! I just didn’t know that was her name. So, I AM an Estelle Getty fan – and a big Golden Girls fan. They’re pretty much timeless as far as entertainment goes. 😉
